AR platforms set for gaming giants

It’s hotting up in the gaming space with the launch today of the launch today of a VR device for Sony’s PS4 and hot on the heels of that news, comes word that Microsoft is primed to  new virtual reality/augmented reality effort which aim to create a suite of experiences unique to Microsoft’s Xbox products. This drive for incorporating AR in the gaming world does not in itself mean that more widespread adoption of the technology by marketers is inevitable; however, the exposure of many more people via gaming must surely have a legitimizing impact. Already, Microsoft have been working to present their Kinnect 2 technology as something that offers added brand experiences for retailers in particular. Combined with the commitment of Google, the technological and financial commitment of two of the gaming giants are set to have a big impact on how augmented reality adoption rates progress.
