The announcement that Google have ceased the shipment of Glass will certainly be a cause of some annoyance to the developer community who have been forking out up to €1300 for the privilege of developing on the hardware. The announcement itself came after period of speculation that the project was being subject to internal review. However, those who see this as marking a stalling of the company’s interest in AR are wide of the mark. Indeed on the same day as the Glass announcement, we saw the filing of more patents for the Magic Leap. What’s perhaps most striking in the complex documentation is the depiction of the wearable device to be used with the platform – a set of glasses. More a wrap-around style than the prizm suspended version of Glass, and one with a separate battery pack. We can probably surmise that the Glass developer team has already been reassigned!
